Christmas in Australia: Top Things To Do

Hi Everyone,

This year will be my second Christmas spent away from home so today I thought I’d give you some ideas on what to expect and some tips on what you can do to make the most of your Christmas and New Years away from home.

Let’s be honest! It isn’t going to be the most pleasant experience in the world. The Christmas ads are probably pulling on your heart strings as are the carols and people at work talking about their plans with their family. BUT! It isn’t the end of the world and you will spend plenty of Christmas’ at home in years to come. You’re going to continue your adventure and make the most of your time in Australia. You only live once and now is the time to make the most of your time off work and the summer!!!

The great thing about Australia is there is always something going and lots of things to do. You can continue some traditions from home and make new ones too! Here’s my top 10 things to do this Christmas!

One: 12 Pubs…Or Beer Gardens!

Australians don’t know what this is yet so it’s a great opportunity to bring your Aussie friends along on the pub crawl to remember. My friend &I have organised one for this year and it’s all so new to most of them. They’re really excited and think it’s a great idea. 12 pubs is always great at home so why not even make it 12 beer gardens if it’s sunny!

Two: Orphan’s Christmas Party

Gather your friends and have an orphan Christmas together. Decorate your house, cook lots of food, arrange loads of party games and have fun! Arrange Kris Kringle so that everyone gets a present on the day.

Three: Christmas Day BBQ On The Beach

This is literally everyone’s dream! Get everyone to bring their own food and drink. Bring some music & beach games and your sorted for the perfect day.

Four: Activity Presents

Buy presents to remember like a skydive, rock climbing a road trip or a trip away during your holiday from work. This will mean that you’re away experiencing new things instead of sitting around thinking of home. Check out some ideas here.

Five: Road Trip

ROAD TRIIIIP! Organise a road trip for you and your friends and go camping! There’s plenty of amazing places to see in Australia so grab your opportunity. Click here for some ideas on the best itineraries.

Six: Holiday To a New City or Country

Go on holiday. You can go to a different city or a different country close by. I know plenty of people go to Thailand this year. I’m going on my first ever cruise to New Zealand and New Caledonia. Experiencing something new will take your mind off home. You only live once! Check out Groupon, Scoopon or Flight Centre for deals!

Seven: Plan to See the Fireworks

Make sure to plan your New Years. There are so many amazing places to go see some fireworks. Check out this NewYearsEve site for some great ideas for every city in Australia.

Eight: Concerts & Festivals

There may be a concert or festival in your area! Find out on Ticketek. There’s lots on in the lead up to Christmas, Christmas Day and New Years Eve.

All are such awesome ideas!! We can also do Christmas at the beach here in South Florida. I’ve never done that since our family usually celebrates on Christmas Eve and Christmas is a day to stay in. But changing it up is always fun!
